F.A.Q.

Q: I see that there is corn listed in some of your pet foods, doesn’t corn cause allergies in dogs?

A: Corn is actually a very good carbohydrate source.  It gets blamed for a lot of allergies because a lot of inexpensive pet foods use corn, not only as a carbohydrate source but also as a filler.  Corn is used as a main ingredient in the formula, then some type of by-product such as wheat middlings, and then a meat protein source.  Corn used in this way may cause allergy problems.  The Muenster Natural pet foods offer a blend of grains, which may reduce the chance that your dog will develop an allergy to a single grain source.  Many pet owners who believed that their dog was allergic to corn have been able to feed them the Muenster Natural without any adverse effects.

Q: I have had my dog tested and he is allergic to corn, do you have a formula that I can feed him/her?

A: We have developed a Chicken & Rice Formula.  To ensure that your dog does not develop an allergy to rice, we include three other grains---grain sorghum, barley and oats.

Q: What is the caloric value of your dog food?

A: Muenster Natural Normally Active = 1,550 kcal/lb (388 kcal/cup)
Muenster Natural Senior & Less Active = 1,450 kcal/lb (363 kcal/cup)
Muenster Natural Athletes, Mothers & Puppies = 1,613 kcal/lb (403 kcal/cup)
Muenster Natural Chicken & Rice = 1,600 kcal/lb (400 kcal/cup)

Q: At what age do I stop feeding the puppy food and start feeding a maintenance diet?

A: For most breeds, you want to switch to a maintenance diet like the Normally Active formula or the Chicken & Rice Formula at around one year of age.  For some large breeds like Labradors and Golden Retrievers, you will want to switch them over a little sooner, around 8-9 months of age.

Q: At what age do I start feeding my dog the Senior formula?

A: This varies by the breed and activity level of the specific dog.  If your dog is staying in good condition and getting adequate exercise and physical activity, you will want to stay on the Muenster Natural Normally Active formula.  However, if your dog is less active and starting to get overweight, you will want to go with a Senior diet.

Q: What is the best way to switch over to a new dog food?

A: It is best to do a gradual switch, over about a 2-week period.  Gradually introduce the new dog food in with the old dog food and increase the amount of the new dog food over time.
